Is it worth using a tonic?
A tonic is a cosmetic that is an essential step in the daily care routine. It is often mistakenly confused with a product that is supposed to cleanse the skin of make-up residue. However, the tonic is used to balance the pH of the skin, i.e. restore the proper level of alkalinity and acidity. The cleansing and make-up removal products we use change the pH from acidic to alkaline and disturb the microbiological balance. To regain balance, you can also use hydrosol instead of tonic. In addition, the tonic makes the rest of the cosmetics that we apply later work better and more effectively.
When and how to apply a facial toner?
Apply the toner every day after cleansing the face and before serum or moisturizing cream. Pour a few drops of tonic/hydrolate on the palm of your hand or on a cotton pad, massage the product in your hands and gently pat it into the skin of the face. A very practical solution are tonics or hydrolates in a bottle with an atomizer, so you can simply spray your face. The tonic makes the cream or other product applied later work more effectively and is easier to spread on the skin. Depending on the active ingredient contained in the tonic, we can use it daily or once in a while. Moisturizing tonics that work on discoloration or are supposed to illuminate the complexion are applied daily. However, preparations with BHA, AHA or PHA acids, which are supposed to help in exfoliating dead skin and smoothing the skin, should be applied only 2-3 times a week, interchangeably with a moisturizing toner.
