Why use SPF all year round?
The sun emits UVA and UVB radiation, which contribute to the formation of wrinkles, the destruction of collagen in the skin, burns and are carcinogenic. Both of these rays affect the skin all year round, whether you are outdoors or indoors, near a window. Solar radiation is not related to air temperature, you can get sunburn even in winter. That is why it is worth using a cream with an SPF filter every day. In addition, remember to choose a cream with a degree of protection appropriate for the season.
EU recommendations divide sunscreen cosmetics into 4
levels of protection:
- low protection - it includes creams that cannot have a lower SPF than 6 and greater than 10
- medium protection - SPF 15, 20, 25
- high protection - SPF 30 and 50
- very high protection – SPF 50+.
The most common factors that can be found on the Polish market are SPF30 and SPF50. In summer and spring, it is worth using SPF50, which blocks as much as 98% of UVB rays, and in winter and autumn - SPF30, which blocks 97% of UVB rays. Unfortunately, there is no such cosmetic that would stop 100% of the radiation, so even when you use the highest protection, you must remember about the right amount of cosmetic applied and reapplied during the day. For the cream to be effective, it should be applied in a large amount, a good method is to apply it to two whole fingers and then to the face. As for re-application, it should be repeated throughout the day every 2-3 hours and always after getting out of the water, even if you use waterproof cosmetics.
